Alexa is the company that analyzes and provides website traffic of the websites. (Alexa is a wholly owned subsidiary of Amazon.com
You can see the statistics and traffic from any website by writing the website URL and searching it from Alexa.
You can try it right away in Alexa.com if you want.
Write URL and click “Find”.
Here is, for example, the some statistics of the highly popular social media website, Pinterest.com.

Alexa also gives statistics of the many other metrics where are the people located using that site, how engaged people are, what is their gender, education and so on. (You can follow me on Pinterest.)
But how reliable Alexa rankings really are and is it important to get your Alexa ranking better? Let’s find out!
Alexa gets their data from people who have installed Alexa toolbar in their browsers. Alexa then tracks the traffic of those users and gets the statistics according to the users of the toolbar.
There are also other plugins and toolbars that Alexa uses to track their traffic.
Still, Alexa certainly doesn’t get the track from all of the users on the internet but only a little amount of it.
Alexa ranking can give you some insight of your website popularity and traffic but it’s not the most reliable one. There are many reasons why you shouldn’t concentrate on the Alexa ranking too much.
If you want to know how your (or any other) website is ranked in Google I recommend you to use Jaaxy. It’s Free to start and very easy to use.
The highly successful Online Entrepreneur and creator of the Wealthy Affiliate Kyle told his own experience. He wanted to test the reliability of Alexa by his own websites. He has many own websites and he chose to compare two of them, let’s call them Website A and Website B.
Website A got unique 20,000+ visitors per day while Website B got “only” 1,000+ visitors per day. So according to that, Website A’s Alexa ranking must be way better than B’s ranking. Was it?
NO! Website B was getting actually double the traffic that A was getting according to Alexa. So Alexa’s ranking and statistics were totally false.
There are different tools and packages that Alexa sells. I don’t recommend them. You can get the same (and actually more accurate) information for free from other tools like Google Analytics.
Alexa rankings aren’t reliable also for the reason that there are many ways to manipulate the Alexa traffic.
People are actually paying money to get their Alexa ranking better
If you are interested in that kind of tools you can find them on Google but I don’t recommend to use them because Alexa ranking is not so important. Use your money for better tools like for Wealthy Affiliate premium to learn more about earning money online.
According to Alexa, top-ranked web pages on the internet are
1.Google
2.Facebook
3.Youtube
Yahoo, Wikipedia, Twitter and Amazon are also in the top 10. So we can definitely say that Alexa ranking gives you some information about the traffic and ranks in the search engines. These websites are highly popular and deserve their place in the top.
Still, I wouldn’t concentrate too much on the Alexa ranking because
1.It doesn’t show traffic accurately
2.The rank can be easily manipulated (you can buy better rankings).
Instead, I recommend you to concentrate more important things in your Online Business like creating valuable content, SEO and others.

Let me start saying that getting your own domain is nowadays dead easy. You don’t need special skills or knowledge.
Would you like to have your website’s name be “yourwebsite.wordpress.com” or “yourwebsite.com”. I prefer the latter.
1.You Own a Website. When you have an own domain, you now have some own space on the internet. And all the time you build and develop your website your space gets bigger and better.
2.Control. Having the own domain gives you the freedom do literally anything you what within your website. Design, context, text, images, links, money making sources, everything is under your control. You can even make your website a social media or community if you want.
3.Ranks better. Having an own domain seems to rank better in search engines than subdomains, like xxxxxxx.wordpress.com, xxxxxxxxx.blogpsot.com, xxxxxxxx.siterubix.com or others. Subdomains can also rank very well if the website is high quality but own domains tend to rank better.
4.Brand/Authority. Do you know the Brands like Youtube, Facebook or Amazon. Those are all highly successful websites and at the same time ultimately valuable brands. Those brands are worth millions (or even billions). Having your own domain gives you credibility and reliability because your visitors will recognize you easier.
5.Domain is an asset. Its value grows. Think your website as a real estate. You own the land and the house from the country called Internet. As you build your house (your website) bigger and better its value grows. All the time you put effort to make it better its value rises on the Internet. You can actually own many websites like you can own many houses but be careful not to concentrate on too many things at the same time.
There are also other benefits but these are at least very crucial reasons. Let’s go into the process of getting the own domain name.
I have bought my own domain names from Namecheap.com. Some of the cheapest domain names are under 1€ for the first year but most of the domain names cost a bit under 10€/year. With he price of one pizza you can have an own domain. Certainly not expensive.
You can search for different domain names by typing your search in the box and click enter.
NameCheap shows you which domain names are available.
The page shows you the results. You can buy your domain name can end to .com, .org, .net or whatever you want. Still, I recommend you to have .com domain name because they rank better in the search engines.
After viewing the results, you can consider which one of the domain names you want to buy. You add it to the cart, create an account (takes 30 seconds) and you have an own domain name.
To be honest, before getting interested in website stuff and online business I thought that having an own domain name (like mywebsite.com) would need some skills and it would be difficult. But as you can see it’s actually dead easy!
After you have your own domain you will need to get domain hosting.
There are countless places where to buy domain hosting on the Internet. I’m using domain hosting by Wealthy Affiliate which includes in the premium membership. Wealthy Affiliate’s domain hosting is reliable and high-quality.

Own domain name is certainly worth it. It costs only about 10$/year but the benefits can be enormous.

If you are going to make online business (and earn money online) first you need to choose your niche.
Let’s define, what is a niche?
According to dictionary.com, “A niche is a distinct segment of a market“.
Your niche can be literally anything. Your hobby, an interest, a passion, a problem, a need. Literally anything. There are billions of people today in on the Internet and they are making billions of searches every day. There is a huge need.
When you are thinking your niche I think one the most important things is that you are interested in your niche. If the only reason for choosing a niche is because you want to make money I’m 99% sure that your motivation will end at some point.
You will be working related to your niche a lot. You need to provide content and value for other people in that niche. You need to learn new all the time and make some “research”.
So, start thinking what are your interests.
But we change all the time as a person. You can get interested in the new niche. For example, before I wasn’t interested in making money online niche but now I am.
David Schwartz taught in his classical book that when you dig deep down into new subject you will be more interested about it.
Simply “a niche is really a group of people looking for stuff” (check this out!).
Let’s think about some examples. People can be interested in gym, hiking, playing saxophone, manga series, relationships, Greek language or fancy clothes.
There are so many different niches. With the Internet, you can easily find people who are interested in your niche. Think about selling Greek language teaching in your local town? The changes are that many people are not interested in that niche. But on the Internet, you have thousands and thousands of people who are interested in your niche.
There are a lot of great niches related to dogs
Even the niches that seem to be small can be enormous on the Internet. Even if there wouldn’t be anyone who is interested in your niche at your country, there may be millions of interested people on the internet.
Don’t be too broad with your niche.
Many people think that “Blah, I don’t want to choose that certain niche because there’s already a lot of competition.”
Let’s face the facts. If people are interested in some themes there is almost always some competition. Finding a niche where there isn’t competition is very improbable. If you manage to find that kind of niche, congratulations.
Competition doesn’t mean that you wouldn’t make a success. Customers like different things.
There is a reason there are a million of every type of store in the world. There are a million grocery stores. There are a million hardware stores. There are a million men’s clothes stores.
Let’s think about men’s clothes stores. There are billions of men in this planet. All of them need clothes. Are all of them buying the clothes from the same place? No, never! There are millions of places where men are buying their clothes. Your niche could be selling men’s t-shirts and you could full-time with that niche alone.
Everyone doesn’t want to buy stuff from the same place. Compare between you and your friends. Do they go to the same grocery store? Do they use the same online store? Do they buy their clothes from the same store? Do they use the same travel agency when they travel?
People like different things. Even if there is competition. Some of the people probably would choose something different than the existing companies.
If you hear people complaining about their service, products or something else what they have bought, it tells you that there is an opportunity to make the things better in that niche. Would it be your opportunity?
The problem of most people is that they may have great ideas but they never take action. They are wondering, “Ohh, how wonderful it would be to achieve such and such things. ” but then they refuse to take action. DO NOT BELONG TO THAT GROUP!
Your first niche can be a success. Or it can be a learning experience towards success. Remember, failure is not the opposite of success.
The failure is the part of success.
Failures teach you something new. Satisfaction with mediocrity is the opposite of success. Don’t be satisfied with mediocrity. Be willing to be better all the time.
The most successful people have tried many different niches before making their real breakthrough.

When we talk about earning money online I’ve seen that many people have a lot of prejudices related to that theme.
I believed also some myths before when I wasn’t aware of the truth about making money online.
Today I’m going to tell the truth about 5 myths that I have heard about earning money online.
(I just want to mention that making money online can mean hundreds of different things: Freelancing, online marketing, teaching, making videos, investing, preaching, helping, counseling, selling and the list go on and on.)
1.Earning money online is only for cheaters. This myth is quite a common because unfortunately there are so many scams online.
It’s true that some of the “online gurus” are cheaters but that’s probably less than 1% of the online workers/entrepreneurs. In other words, most of the people who work online are not cheaters.
Working online can be totally as valuable as working offline (in the “real world”). And sometimes it can be many times more valuable than working offline. In Wealthy Affiliate, I have got to know many guys who make money online 100% legally and they provide important value for the people.
2.Earning money online is not “real work”. Some people may think that working online is equal to laying on the couch or in the beach. Yes, it can be like that because you are your own boss.
But if you want to success online you need to work. Earning online is like any other business. Success requires “real work”.
The goal for many people online is that they have enough passive income they can live with it. It’s totally okay and there’s nothing wrong with it. Some people have a better salary than others but if you want to have a good salary you need to provide good value for the people.
Let’s make a little comparison. Person A is a teacher at the local university and teaches to about 200 people every day. Sometimes less. He is a mediocre teacher but he was hired to the university already 20 years ago.
Person B works online and teaches 10 000 people every single day through his online videos. He is one of the best in his field. People like his teachings and he helps people to get their life better.
Is Person A doing “real work” and Person B not? Let me laugh! 🙂
3.People try to earn money online only because they want to get rich. That’s actually partially true. I guess that money is probably a motivator for many online entrepreneurs.
The Internet provides unbelievable opportunities. There are about 3,3 billion internet users today (and the amount is growing). If you want to help a lot of people, what’s the best channel to do that? Internet.
The Internet is the big part of today’s world and working online provides limitless opportunities to make this world better and make big things.
I would say that money is not the main motivator for online entrepreneurs.
4.Earning money online is “Easy Money”. Making money online can be easy. But first, you need to study and hard work to get that “easy money”.
Earning money in general (online and offline) requires two things
1.Education
2.Provide value for other people
Education can be formal or informal. You can get your education from the university, the internet, from the books or from friends. Still, you need to learn the skills first and then you can —> Provide value.
Providing value means helping other people, helping your boss, teaching, counseling, building or million of other things.

5.Few people have proper talent to earn money online. Are we living in the Stone Age? Today you have the best teachers ever teaching you how to earn money online. You don’t need any former skills.
Most of the Online Entrepreneurs started without any background of online work. They just started to learn and now they earn. Sometimes people just tend to forget that it requires hard work to earn online. But it pays off.

Today I want to give you ultimately powerful insights how to find content ideas from your past.
The things you are doing today are normal for you. The skills you have today feel like something very normal. If you have played piano for 5 years, playing piano feels like something very natural. There doesn’t seem to be anything special to know how to play for you.

As I said if something is basic for you, it’s probably not basic for someone else. Let’s think about some examples.
1.If you are making money online I can definitely say that you know a lot more than most of the people. You have a lot of things to share.
2.If you have been a Christian you have a lot of wisdom to share who has just found Christ. Share to others what you have learned over the years.
3.If you don’t know anything about anything you can make questions and connect with people (Google loves websites with discussion).
Most of the people are looking for the “basic stuff”. Only a little percentage of people are really looking for something very advanced teachings like programming course level 9132849. Of course some search for programming course level 9132849 but that’s probably 0,00001% of world’s population.
Remember your “Basic stuff” may be highly important for many people.

Many people ask the questions like, “What are keywords?” “What do keywords mean?” And so on.
Today I’m going to explain you briefly what are those “strange keywords”. Probably after reading this text, you will be more familiar with keywords.
The keyword can mean many things in the different contexts (programming and other) but let’s concentrate on the keyword’s meaning in search engines.
“The keyword is a word or a sentence used by the search engine in its search for relevant Web pages.”
Let me give you some examples. The headline of this text is “What Does Keyword Mean?” The headline itself is a keyword. I made a little bit research and saw that people are looking for that keyword (“What Does Keyword Mean”) from Google.
So, when you write something to Google you are writing “a keyword”. If someone wants to learn how to make money online and writes in Google “How to make money online”, that is his “keyword”. Simple?
As I mentioned, my headline “What Does Keyword Mean?” is a keyword. People are looking for that in Google. My other articles in my website are for example
People are looking these subjects in Google.
For example, many people have searched for “Benefits of having a WordPress website.” I tell you 7 benefits in the article, so I added the seven in front of the keyword. It makes the headline also more captivating and appealing.
People are also wondering what is SEO and why they need it. They are thinking what is key to success and what are the benefits of passive income.
Keywords are the words and sentences that people search from Google and other search engines. People are interested in those things because they are looking for them.
The headline gets ranked in Google but also all the other stuff on the website. All the text in every post and page. All the images. Literally almost everything.
If you write for example a blog post of 700 words, (which is quite a normal for a blog post) it contains already a big bunch of keywords. Also, every image you add on your website can be ranked in search engines. There are techniques how you can get your images ranked better in Google but today we concentrate on the text.
Even though your every single article and page contains already a lot of keywords it’s still important to make “keyword research” to get your page ranked better. It will lead to more traffic on your website and people will find your website more easily.
Even if you don’t have any former skills on keywords, don’t worry! If you have experience from keywords, great!
Finding great and relevant keywords can take too much time if you don’t have proper tools for doing that. It may take time from other more important things.

There are also other good keywords as you can see, for example, “How to Play Guitar Fingerstyle” and “Learning How to Play Guitar Online”
If you are doing online business, you need to make keyword research in order to succeed. That is totally vital and all of the most successful online entrepreneurs do it more or less.
You want to get more traffic to your website and that is possible with great keywords. Using proper keywords will give you targeted customers who are interested in your subject. They are searching the things about your niche and then they end up to your site. But only if you are using proper keywords!

You may wonder what is this strange term that people use on the Internet, SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
SEO is the process of readying a website to be listed well in search engines (according to Wapedia). Let’s put it in a more simple form.
You set up your website to get ranked in search engines. This is SEO, in a nutshell.
In order to get ranked in search, you need to do certain things. Provide valuable content, engage with people, use keywords, social media presence and so on.
You want to be ranked in Google, Yahoo and other search engines to get traffic.
Think about the benefits when you get ranked in search engines. Let me give you 4 reasons.
1.It’s free marketing (You don’t need to pay for SEO)
2.Your visitors are targeted (People search for something specific and end up to your website.)
3.Your brand/company’s value rises
4.People find you easily
There are of course more reasons but these four are quite crucial.
Think about expensive marketing campaigns. You pay for Facebook or make Pay Per Click campaigns to get your ads somewhere. They may cost a lot. But SEO doesn’t cost money. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t be using paid marketing methods but don’t solely lean on paid methods.
If you want to get fit, you may search “How to get fit” from Google. Then you head to the fitness site which sells ideas and products how you can get fit. You are already interested in the website’s theme because you searched it from Google.
In other words, using SEO effectively gives the website targeted visitors who are already interested in the subject.

Let’s think about an example. Company A and company B are working in the same industry. They both want to get more customers online. Company A uses SEO but company B doesn’t.
Company A gets ranked in search engines and a lot of people come to his website. Then they end up buying his products and the company success. Company B thinks, “We don’t want to think about SEO. We concentrate on the other things.” They don’t get ranked in Google and only very few people come to their website. Not many products are sold.

It’s curious that some people see opportunities everywhere while other people seem to be blind for them.
Imagine two people walking around and thinking about their lives. The other one (Let’s call him Jamie) is complaining about his job, relationships and health. The other one (Bob) offers him help. He sees opportunities.
Bob is an entrepreneur and offers Jamie an interesting job. But Jamie refuses and says, “I can’t take that job, I’m incompetent.”

You are maybe thinking, “Why you are telling me this story about two weird guys Bob and Jamie?” Let me explain.
When you see people around you, some of them are like Bob. They see new opportunities everywhere. They love to explore new things. And they succeed.
Spending time with people like Bob is usually quite inspiring.
Then you know the people who always tend to fail. At least, in their own words. They don’t see many opportunities. Actually, they tell you things like, “I’m not talented or I’m slow to learn.”
They have hope. But they have closed their eyes.
The crucial question is, Are you like Bob or Jamie?
You may be wondering what this story has to do with my website’s theme, “Learn to Earn Online”.
Some people close their eyes from opportunities on the Internet. Nowadays, it’s certainly possible to work full-time with an online business.
If we go back two years in time I didn’t know that earning money online could be possible. I didn’t see the opportunities. I had a lot of prejudices about earning money online.
I thought that in future I would like to have my own website but I didn’t know that it’s also possible to earn money from websites. I had thought, “Maybe some gurus earn something with ads.” Thanks God, I see more opportunities today.
The Internet serves also for million other things. You can affect millions of people on the Internet. If you want to make the world better, the Internet is one great place to start. You can also learn from the best teachers in the world.
