You can do lots of things online as a freelancer. You can be for example:

10 Reasons to Start an Online Business as a College Student

I started my online business when I was still studying in a college. That’s why I am going to share you 10 Reasons to Start an Online Business as a College Student.

If you have already graduated from college, don’t worry, probably many of these reasons will apply to you as well! Read until the end because reasons 9 and 10 are my favorites. Which reasons do you like the most?

1.You probably have more time

If you are a college student, you don’t need to go to work 9 to 5. If you would be working from Monday to Friday for 8 hours it makes 40 hours a week. As far as I have seen, in most of the degrees, the work that you need to make in order to pass the course is closer to 20 hours/week than 40 hours/week. So you will have double the time compared to if you would be in a full-time job.

In addition, most college students don’t have kids or spouse. The family is a great thing and if you want to have one is definitely one of the best goals that you can have. However, if you don’t want to commit yourself when you are in a college, you will have much more time on other things like for example for building an online business.

2.The sooner you start your online business, the better

Building any business requires TIME and EFFORT. Nothing happens without working your butt off. But especially in the online world, the success requires time most of the time. When you start a new website, Google doesn’t rank you very high. It takes from 3 months to a year to build authority in Google’s eyes. So it’s better to start your site early if you want to gain good rankings in the future.

Building an online business also requires learning. You need to learn certain skills to succeed. It’s often said that young people learn quickly. You can work online in Hawaii, Finland, South Africa, Spain, Indonesia, Hong Kong or literally anywhere you want. The only thing you need is a device where you can connect and an internet connection. That’s why the Internet can give us equal opportunities despite the country where we have born.

10.Possibility to work ANYTIME you want

Are you a night person? Or do you like waking up early?

If you have an online business you can decide your work hours. I like waking up early and once I had a habit of waking up every morning at 5-6 AM and then immediately started working online. But you can also stay awake late and build your business even until 2 AM if you want.

Or if you have a boring lesson in a college you can probably open your laptop and start doing important things. Most teachers will probably just think that that’s very motivated student because he has a laptop with him so that he can make notes ;).

How to Choose the Right Career for Me? Think Long Term! Read My Personal Examples.

If you are young and thinking what should you do when you are “big” and grown up. You are wondering, “How to Choose the Right Career for Me?”

Or maybe you are fed up with your current job and you are thinking about the same question. How could you determine which career path is just right for you?

Today, I will tell you truthfully how I made and many other people make their career choices. I believe that my examples can give you some inspiration to help your own decision.

Very Typical Way

Most of the people choose the career path based on the example of their, parents, relatives friends and from the other examples what they get from their environment.

You probably know some people who decided to choose exactly the same job as their parents. One of my friends’ father was a doctor so she always wanted to become a doctor herself. Now she is studying her third year in a medical school.

When I was a kid people asked me, “What will you be when you grow up?” I guess that many people asked you the same question when you were younger. I just answered, “Taxi driver” because my uncle was a taxi driver. My mother or father didn’t have a permanent profession for a long time so the closest example that I had was from my uncle.

Then I ended up driving a taxi on weekends during my studies. The choice became stronger also because I knew other friends who were taxi drivers.

After High School – The Big Decision

During the last year of high school (or vocational school) you must decide what will you continue studying, at least in Finland. Will you go to the university, university of applied sciences (or college) or start working??

How on earth could someone know what they want to do rest of their life when they are 19?!?!

That’s why I wrote this text to help you to choose the right career path just for you.

After high school, I saw advertisements of universities and colleges. Universities seemed to be theoretical and boring. It seemed that you just sit there on the lessons and read some books. Then ads from colleges said that studying there is very practical, down-to-earth and there are lots of internships so you will get your first work contacts and networks easily.

I also figured out that I want to help people to have a better life instead of calculating some boring mathematical functions in my office.

So, I decided to start studying social services in College (or you can call it University of Applied Sciences). Some of my friends and my mother asked, why didn’t I go to study something more challenging as I always got some of the best grades at school. I had always been one of the best in my class.

Well, I wanted something practical and at this point, I wasn’t thinking about the salary. But later on, I realized that my mother and friends had a good point.

After Graduation

Now I have finished my studies and I am waiting to get my “graduation papers” at the end of this month (30.9.2016 is my official graduation day).

Sometimes one crucial question flashes in my mind, “Did I choose the right career path?”

I have been thinking that I want to do something great and big during my life. I want to influence on thousands and millions of people. I want to help people to have a better life, get to know God and live happily. If I would go to work to a local kindergarten with 20 children, how could my dream become possible? Of course, I could affect there some people but not something very big that I am dreaming.

I figured out that I would also need some money in order to develop something big.

For example, if I would want to help homeless people to get their life on track again, it would require money and effort. I couldn’t do it alone. I could start an organization for helping people in need but it always requires some money. Money to rent/buys the building, food, furniture, employees and so on.

I Didn’t Think About Salary Before Choosing My Degree

Let’s say that you work as a bachelor of social services and a typical salary is 2,500€/month (before taxes). It makes 30,000€/year. As a doctor, you will easily make 5,000€/month after graduation. It makes double as more as a bachelor of social services. Of course, after reducing taxes the difference is not so big but it’s still remarkable.

After taxes 2,500€/month in Finland makes 22,000€ and 5,000€/month make 37,500€. The difference is 15,500€. In 10 years the difference is 155,000€ and in reality, it’s much bigger because doctor’s salary will rise faster than a social counselor’s salary.

I didn’t take these things into account when I was thinking about my career path. But I should have.

I am not saying that money is the only thing that matters in a job but we cannot deny that it’s still a big factor. If you earn double income, you could work for example one year, and during the other year do whatever you want. For example, help the people in need or go to travel around the world.

The cold truth is that many things in life require some money. But if you would be doing a job that you don’t enjoy then you probably won’t endure long.

I love learning and discovering new things. So, I have figured out that an optimal job for me is where I can learn something new, have challenges and get paid for that. What are your passions? When do you feel the excitement in your body?

Online Opportunity – More Powerful Than Ever Before

Even though I probably don’t become a doctor I am very glad that I found an opportunity influence people’s life through the Internet. And in addition, I could do it anywhere in the world.

How to Choose the Right Career for Me?

First of all, think long-term. What do you really want out of your life? What do you want to be remembered for when you die?

The truth is that when you will be working 40 hours a week, that’s a huge amount of time! Would you like to spend your time and your life doing something that you don’t want?

I always recommend to pray and seek God’s guidance in your life.

Ask many people for advice too. Not just your mother and father but tens of different people. You don’t need to know all of them personally because you can scroll different opportunities online.

Check for example a list of professions. Read some description of the most interesting ones. Then search more information from Google.

Try It in Practice!

Even though you would have read many descriptions and heard experiences about a certain profession, you still may don’t know if it fits for you or not. The best way to find out if you’ll like it or not is to try.

I have worked for example

• As taxi driver
• Social counselor with mental health clients and alcoholic people
• In the kindergarten
• As a babysitter
• In the refugee center
• Building my own online business
• In a retail store

My thoughts about different works have changed after my own experiences. You may have illusions of different jobs.

However, note that at some point you just need to commit and stick with one profession. Probably you will have ups and downs but commitment and consistent effort make you better.

You may not have an opportunity to try everything yourself before committing to it. But at least visit different places, ask from other professionals and really get all the information that you can get to make a good decision.

Einstein stated, “Thinking is hard work; that’s why so few do it.” I encourage you to dedicate lots of time thinking about your career choice. It is one of the most important things that you will be doing during your whole life.

• Use pen and paper. List down pros and cons of different professions. Then compare.
• Analyze at least 5 different professions.
• Calculate possible salaries.
• Ask many, many, many people.
• Visualize yourself doing the work in practice. And if you have the opportunity, go to try it in practice.

I have decided that I want to build my own online business although I am working on a normal job as well.

I am in a process of building my online business and one of my dreams is to commit at some point 100% doing an online business. But I love working in general. I am not like people who hate the 9-5 job. But still having an own online business has so many like listed before:

We See Their Glory But Don’t Understand the Story

It’s easy to look someone who has an online business making him $100,000/month and think, “He was just lucky. He was in the right place at the right time.” First of all, I don’t believe in luck.

He might have been in the right place at the right time but if someone makes hundreds of thousands online it means that they have worked their butt off. There is no other way around. (Well, at least if we are speaking about honest ways.)

While you have been chatting with your friends or playing online games, internet entrepreneurs have been building their business. They have been making new content, social media marketing or a review about a new product.

Now they are “reaping the harvest“.

You Reap What You Sow

I am not saying that if you want a successful online business, you must totally end all parties, never have fun and spend the rest of your life in the front of the computer. That’s quite far from the truth.

But the point is that results don’t come without work.

If you want the prize, you must pay the price. (Price = work, work and work)

The positive side of all this it that if you are willing to work, you will also reap a good harvest.

As the Bible says, “Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return.”

Even though the Bible wasn’t talking specifically about online businesses, the principle works in everything.

If you sow seeds to your business, you will reap good results in return.
If you sow seeds in honesty, you will reap honest results.

What is the Secret to Making Money Online?

Have you ever heard someone asking the question, “What is the secret to making money online?” I bet that you have!

Many people are looking for a secret that would make them automatically rich online. The other side of the coin is that many scammers have used those people to milk money.

They have made their “secret programs” that teach how they earned $100,000 online by “pushing the button”. If you have followed my blog, you know that kind of buttons doesn’t exist in this world. They only way those “push the button” -guys have made their wealth is by cheating people to believe their lies. Sorry that I’m rude but I don’t want anyone to fall for the online scams.

Thank God, not all the people who are earning +$10,000/month online are scammers. Most of them are totally honest and wonderful guys.

If you want to contact many successful online businessmen personally, I recommend to create a free account in Wealthy Affiliate and sent them the private messages.

Let’s think how those honest men have built their online business.

In the beginning, most of them didn’t have anything.

They didn’t have a website when they born.

They didn’t have skills before they started.

They didn’t even know how to use the computer before starting.

My point is that all of them have started from zero at some point. Many of them had even the worse starting point than you have/had.

One Step at a Time

All of the successful online entrepreneurs must have succeeded only one step at a time even though they have taken the different ways.

Some of them made the first success through SEO.

Some through social media marketing.

Some through PPC-marketing.

And so on.

Let’s take for example the guy who made success through SEO. First, he learned how to build a website. Then he wrote something and added pictures on his website. Well, many people can do to this level but not all.

He added affiliate links on his website to make commissions on the products. But he didn’t have many visitors yet.

Then he learned how to get ranked in Google. He started to get organic traffic from the search engines when people were searching certain things related to his website.

Let’s say that 0,1% of the visitors ended up buying something through his affiliate links.

He thought that the conversion could be higher because now only one of 2000 visitors bought a product. He updated his sales pages and saw how 0,2% of the visitors bought something. The sales doubled.

He wanted to get even more visitors to his website so he updated his old content to get ranked better in Google. Then he wrote more articles to answer even more questions of his audience. The traffic kept increasing from the search engines.

Then he repeats the process until there were hundreds of thousands of monthly visitors and the conversion rate was much higher than in the beginning.

The story talked mainly about traffic from SEO but in reality, when you have the great content on your website, visitors will share it on social media which will drive even more traffic.

Scaling Your Business

You can build an email list, make social media marketing on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc., build PPC campaigns and much more.

The bottom line is that you can learn each of those things if you just want.

But let’s be realistic that the learning takes time and in the online world you don’t see the results immediately. When you have built the new website, during the first three months it will probably not rank very well in Google.

With the PPC-campaigns you need to test, test, test and scale until something proves to work. You don’t always see the results immediately!

Let’s say that you built your online business during one month (30 min/1 hour per evening) and earned only $5 and in the next month $25. In the third month, you make $125. Then you calculate, “Hmm… I have earned only $155 during 3 months. This doesn’t pay enough. I quit.”

Didn’t you realize that you made 5 times more than in the previous month! If you would keep on scaling the business every month like that it would mean $625 in the fourth month. Then -> $3,125!

Of course, everything doesn’t always work in a linear way but the idea is that on the Internet you can scale your business to a huge extent. For example, I have about 11k followers on Twitter and it takes only 3 minutes to send 131 tweets to all of them (Using Hootsuite). If we compare it to the start when I had 100 followers and it took 3 minutes to write 1 tweet.

Everything Worthwhile Takes Time

Did you know that only 1 of the all 43 U.S. presidents has been divorced? One of them remained single. It means that 41 out of 43 remained married until the death made them apart. The statistic tells something about their commitment.

Building a marriage takes time. You need to get to know to a person, spend lots of time together and so on. It’s a process where you get to know each other even more and know what the other person likes and dislikes.

The same principles apply to an online business. It takes the time to build the content and it takes the time to build the relationships with the audience. But every time when you put some effort, you take one step closer to your online success.

Making money online is not a sprint. It’s a marathon.

When you keep on sowing the seeds to your online business, at some point you will reap the harvest. That’s the natural law of cause and effect.

If you compare to a “normal profession” where you study first 3 years in a university before earning a single dollar, making money online is much faster way to (passive) income.

The truth is that there is no such “secret”. You need to learn the skills like in the offline business.

But the secret to making big money online is scaling. You can scale your business in much better way than you could ever imagine in the offline world.

Get 10,000 visitors/month to your online store. Think how much more investments and risk it would require to get the 10,000 visitors/month to your offline store.

So, forget the mystical secrets to making money online. Instead, think what would be the next skill that you need to learn.

Learn to make videos?

Define what is the skill that you are going to need to scale your business. Learn it and then put the knowledge powerfully into action. Rinse and repeat.

How to Make Money Selling Other People’s Products?

You want to make money online? Yes.

You don’t have own products? No.

Is it possible to make income without own products? Certainly Yes!

Four Simple Steps

1.Choose Your Interest. First step is to decide what you are interested in. Do you like sports, arts, music, programming or dogs. I mean your interest can be literally anything. You don’t need to be an expert. But you certainly need to be interested in that theme. 

Okay, let’s say that you are interested in music, more specifically playing guitar. Once you have chosen your interest we can move to step two which is

2.Build a Website. Building a website is actually very easy and SIMPLE. The process will take probably 30 seconds. You will have a good-looking website which is the foundation of your online business.

You don’t have to know anything about programming or stuff related.

 

If your interest is playing guitar, your website will be related to that theme. You will be adding information, reviews and other things to your website. I still want to point out that you don’t need to be an expert but interested in that theme. If you are expert guitar player, that’s wonderful but not necessary in online business.

3.Attract Visitors. Once you have your very own website the next step is to attract visitors to your website. You attract visitors by providing value about your theme.

MORE PEOPLE MEANS MORE OPPORTUNITIES!

If your website is about playing guitar you can for example give tips how to practice. You can write reviews of your favorite guitars or link great guitar tutorials from Youtube.

4.Earn Revenue. Once you have your website and some visitors you can start earning revenue. Most easily this works by promoting other people’s products. You “affiliate” products that are related to your website’s theme.

In internet there are millions of different products that you can affiliate.

In your guitar playing site you can affiliate different guitars, guitar equipment, guitar training courses and others. For example in Amazon you can find 1,233,667 results for “guitar”. You can literally run a guitar business by selling Amazon products only. Once someone buys a product from Amazon, you get a commission. Simple?

In our example your interest was guitar playing. But your interest can be anything in the world. I can assure you that there are affiliate programs for any theme in internet.

Internet is full of opportunities to earn money selling other people’s products. There are thousands and thousands of programs. Some of them provide you little 5% commission but some programs can provide you even 80% commission.

Let’s say for example that you promote a guitar which costs 500$ and you get 10% commission. That makes 50$ into your pocket. But if the guitar is 5 000$ with 15% commission it means 750$ into your pocket. And these numbers are totally realistic.

Perfection – Not Required in the Online Business

Hi there!

This blog post can work for you and me as a reminder what is really important in running a website, writing a blog and actually in life in general.

Many times in life fear of not being perfect can hold us back. To be honest I believe that perfectionism can be harmful for our progress in online business and life.

1-0 The Only Thing That Counts

Have you watched the football match where the other team dominated the action in the field during the whole game. But then the underdog scores in the last minute and wins 1-0.

Ball possession doesn’t make the winner, great shoots don’t make the winner or great individual performances don’t make the winner.

The only thing that counts is the number of goals you make

Of course ball possession can help you in making goals but it just doesn’t make you a winner. And same applies to life.

Great plans or dream don’t make you a winner. The only thing that makes you a winner is the action you take!

I believe that it’s important to dream big but after you have dreamed big and made plans how to achieve those dreams, the only thing that counts is that do you stick with those dreams and plans.

The Right Direction Is the Most Important, Not the Speed

If you start your very first website today, the website is not probably perfect. Let’s be honest with that. But as you start the website today and run it for three months I’m quite sure that it’s already way better after three months. The website has developed a lot and you had learned from the mistakes. What would be the progress after six months, one year or five years!? If you start today, and stick with your dreams, nothing is impossible.

The most important thing is to start.
The second thing is not to give up.

If you remember those two things you can achieve literally anything in online business. Some people don’t even start and the majority gives up without trying enough. That’s the only reason they fail in online business.

Perfection Isn’t Necessary at all

You really don’t need to be perfect when you start. But atually you don’t need to be perfect afterwards. When you run a website, people are not looking something that is perfect. Does Craigslist or Reddit look like perfect? No, but still they are highly popular websites.

If you make mistakes with your website and its content you can always correct it afterwards if you want. It’s better to have 10 texts published than 1000 drafts waiting for a perfect day. Because “the magical perfect day” never comes.

Just make some progress today because Little progress every day counts up big results.

Do people want to act with someone who is totally perfect, without any mistakes, almost a robot? I guess that people would prefer someone who is a normal human being with two legs and hands. Just being yourself is enough.
