What is Nutrisystem?
Founded in 1972, Nutrisystem is a network marketing company based in Pennsylvania, USA. Harold Katz established this weight loss company to create products he thought will give a massive contribution to others in need to shed some pounds through the approach he created.
Prior to the success of his flagship products, he initially distributed his weight loss approach to different brick and mortar centers until the late 1990s.
He finally sought success by means of building a direct-to-customer business model wherein the company implemented the sales and programs through the use of the internet and call centers.

Unlike Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem faced different allegations that his approach to the weight loss program isn’t as effective as it promised. On top of that, many of the clients complained about its high cost.
How Does Nutrisystem Work?
The first thing you have to know about Nutrisystem is that the diet approach involves overhauling the typical food intake, good for 28 days.
That means if you want to eat a hamburger, for example, the chefs had their own take on changing the ingredients to lessen the number of calories in that particular meal. The process of changing your low-calorie food intake will be pre-planned weekly.
If you’re familiar with how the Herbalife diet approach works, understanding Nutrisystem won’t be that difficult as both of these have similar approaches when it comes to the weight loss programs.
There is also an added flexibility to it whenever you have inevitable events to attend wherein you can’t resist eating and drinking the food prepared for you that are containing high calories.
In addition to that, they also encourage 6 smaller portions of meals every day to keep the body going albeit the dieting.
Further, there will be Nutrisystem supplements added to the mix to ensure you’re going to have no problems with shedding some fat and burn calories fast. Hence, no starvation.
The meal plan will be delivered to you which is good for 4 weeks. That comprises the breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner meals.
These are frozen to keep them safe from the shipping. So once you receive them (around 4 to 10 business days after ordering), you have to ensure they’re kept in the fridge until the supplies last.
How to Make Money with Nutrisystem?
According to Zac Johnson, you can possibly earn around $65 per referral when endorsing someone to join Nutrisystem in comparison to $10 in Weight Watchers.
That alone makes a lot of difference. However, unlike the latter, there are no other means to make money in this company aside from becoming one of their bonafide affiliates.
What Nutrisystem does is giving off free products worth for 2 weeks once you recommended someone to become a member and join the program with you.
Not only the free 2-week period products, but they also give away free diet analysis to your referred user.
However, if you’re from the Hollywood industry or an influential person such as Marie Osmond or former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, the company compensates for the promotions and marketing with the use of their personal weight loss journeys. In fact, Marie Osmond earned an estimated amount of $1.65 million from Nutrisystem.
Nutrisystem [UGLY] Truths Revealed!
1. Reward Codes Don't Work
According to the current employee, a weight loss counselor, she revealed that most of the time the reward codes Nutrisystem gives to their clients don't work.
Not only that, the warehouse had always been in chaos pushing the employees to work harder to fix the issues.
2. No Sick Leave Allowed
If you plan to work for Nutrisystem as one of their weight loss counselors, it's best not to do that or else you'll suffer like the most employees.
"You are not allowed to have consecutive days off unless you work part-time. There is no advancement," a current employee wrote.
3. Horrible Workplace
This isn't about the physical office or the warehouse, but the working environment itself isn't inducing motivation for most of the workers.
"There's a lot of favoritism, many get away with a lot... There's no career advancement at all," the current employee added to the rant. Another employee supported the claim by saying there's no job security for them.
4. Low Income Potential
If you notice that Nutrisystem seems limited when it comes to giving extra bonuses even to the affiliates, the weight loss counselors feel that, too. This time, it's way more intense.
"Very fast-paced work environment, stressful, difficult working conditions and unrealistic monthly goals for the employees. Hourly pay is below average, especially if you are traveling from the city daily," a former weight loss counselor revealed.
Aside from that, the commission rates are very low (worth 2% per sale) to the point they treated it as a joke.

5. Inconvenience
Like most weight loss programs, WebMD warns the total overhaul of your lifestyle including the expenses involved in it.
That's because Nutrisystem varies their diet plan to people with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and high cholesterol.
"If you like to cook or eat out, or you have a tight food budget, this plan is not for you," Eric Metcalf, MPH of WebMD stated.
6. Inability To Cancel Membership
There are issues on the Better Business Bureau stating the majority of their “satisfied” dieters have problems with canceling their membership.
Based on the statements of one client, he wanted to cancel his autoship program because he’s already in the ideal weight.
So, there’s no need to continue following the meal plan. When he sent them an email or called the customer service, there’s nobody answering his request albeit the frequency of repeated request for cancellation. Because of that, he felt Nutrisystem suddenly felt a scam to him.
7. Bad Customer Service
In relation to the previous point, many of the dieters found Nutrisystem customer service really bad.
The company seems to have no control or too chaotic to handle a large number of cancellation requests, to begin with.
"If I could do zero stars, I would. Their customer service is awful. Once you sign up for the 1st shipment, it's like you have made a pact with the devil and it's very hard to get out of it. If you call to cancel, they will keep you holding for hours. And you can't cancel online," a dieter named Sandra stated.
She added that if you try canceling the first order, Nutrisystem keeps charging $125. That continues until the 3rd order without any response to your cancelation requests.
A dieter named Ellen supported the claim by saying she waited for 20 minutes for having her call answered. Besides, she spent $4,4550 in one year and wanted to stop the membership. But, apparently, she can't.
What I Like About Nutrisystem?
1. Flexibility
Like Weight Watchers, the meal plan they provide allows a bit of flexibility to their dieters, especially if there's an uncontrollable eat outs and other events where eating is involved.
2. Effective Weight Loss Program
Marie Osmond is notable for shedding a lot of weight when she started her Nutrisystem regimen. According to a source, she immediately lost 45 pounds within the first 4 months through following the 28-day meal plan. The same thing happened to Dan Marino losing 22 pounds.
3. Lose Weight Fast
The fact you're lowering the calorie intake as well as the sodium and fat, there's no doubt to lose a lot of weight.
There's science-backed into it so there's no need to ask for more. The thing is that Nutrisystem tries to change your menu into something healthier than you're eating and drinking before.
Aside from that, they don't force you to change everything. You can still eat the food you like but the ingredients used are changed for that matter.
4. Easy-To-Follow Meal Plan
You don't need to think about what to eat the next day or in the next week because Nutrisystem provides it all for you.
They will be the one to provide the meals for you and have it delivered right into your home address for around 4 to 10 business days. The meal plans will be good for 28 days.
5. Accredited BBB Company
Since 2012, Nutrisystem has been an accredited business on the Better Business Bureau records. Not only they earned the accreditation status, but they also got the highest rating of an A+.
Nutrisystem Review - What Others Say?
Based on my research, there are many opposing thoughts about Nutrisystem as a whole. Besides its effective weight loss program, there are many weight loss counselors seems to have been turned off with the low-paying commissions on their part.
Just so you know, they are the very backbone of the organization. Hence, it’s their right to ask for higher pay to work harder with motivation.
In most cases, the workload is too heavy for such a low monthly income. The fact is also true to non-employees, for instance, the affiliates, without more income streams with the company.
Although they could earn $65 per referral, that doesn’t mean they could generate more income given the massive number of complaints filed against the company. On the Better Business Bureau alone, there are already 375 complaints within the last few years.
From there, it’s hard to endorse a program with those figures of negative rants. Not to exclude the ones written on Indeed and Glassdoor, where most of the employees shared their sentiments they could never do within the company.
Is Nutrisystem Scam?
Given all the pieces of information gathered to prove whether Nutrisystem is a scam or not, there’s nothing to prove the illegitimacy of the company. The Pennsylvania-based weight loss company is legit and has a real program to offer its clients.
In addition to that, influential names like Marie Osmond and Dan Marino promoted the program based on their personal experiences with the meal plans.
So far, they made the best out of it and shared the effectiveness of the approach by showing off their new bodies in the public eye.
That alone is enough proof for everyone that Nutrisystem is a real company with a real mission, to help people to lose some pounds and live a healthy lifestyle. Regardless of its negative issues, they continue to thrive across the United States and the world.
#1 Online Business Opportunity
As I mentioned earlier, it’s hard to earn money by promoting weight loss programs if you don’t have prior experiences with it personally.
It’s difficult to convince someone that Nutrisystem works and refer them in exchange for $65. That is again if you don’t have a personal take on their 28-day weight loss approach.
With that being said, Roope “Robert” Kiuttu, the founder of Your Online Revenue Ltd and a successful affiliate marketer for 4 years now, has something to say about it.
He wanted to share with you his legit residual passive income from affiliate marketing and not from endorsing risky program such as the weight loss.
Believe it or not, he earned me or less $2,000 within the first 20 hours because of this recommended business opportunity and continues to earn more with his passive income by doing what he loves: promoting the products he believes and helping people to thrive and reach their financial freedom.

Now that I shared my thoughts in my “Is Nutrisystem scam?” post, it’s time to turn the table and ask about your experience, in general.
What kinds of experiences do you have with weight loss programs? Are they worth your time, money, and effort?
Do you prefer to begin earning your first passive income through affiliate marketing or you rather invest your time, money, and effort to weight loss programs like Nutrisystem?
