What Is BigCommerce?
Established in 2009, Australians Eddie Machaalani and Mitchell Harper launched a 100% bootstrapped online shopping cart. If you are familiar with Shopify and how it works, you could assume similarities between the two.
Going back to its history, Machaalani and Harper launched their first US office in the same year. Two years later, they closed more or less than $15 million investment from General Catalyst Partners through their Series A Funding initiative.
To date, Brent Bellm runs the company as the CEO, leaving Machaalani as the executive chairman and Harper with no position in the company.

How Does BigCommerce Work?
Weebly, Wix, and even SquareSpace introduced e-commerce properties in the content management system (CMS), which plays a vital role in creating hundreds of thousands of online businesses across the world.
Platforms like Shopify, the leading online business provider, have been a demand, especially in dropshipping businesses nowadays.
Now, BigCommerce does the same thing as these companies. They provide the opportunity to help others launch their online stores by building them using their own e-commerce platform.
Since they are also a SaaS, they host these sites without the help of any third-party vendors for that matter. If Global Domains and Bluehost provide only the web hosting packages, Bigcommerce is akin in the online shops as well.
How to Make Money with BigCommerce?
For Affiliates
There are 2 ways to make more money on Bigcommerce. You can join their affiliate marketing program, or you maximize their affiliate program intended for merchants to seek help from the affiliates to promote their products and/shop on their behalf.
I had an online store before, and from a business owner's standpoint, it is an excellent idea for the company to have these 2 programs playing significant roles for its stakeholders.
According to the BigCommerce Affiliate Program, they payout as much as 200% to affiliates from the customer's first monthly payment. That's equal to $1,500 per enterprise customer.
Further, they don't have commission caps, obligations, or minimum commitment. All you have to do is to invite more people to direct to BigCommerce and sign up, eventually going for the higher monthly recurring payment to run their businesses.
As an affiliate, you can focus on the tracking of how the links perform - clicks, trials, sales, and commissions - through BigCommerce dashboard. All of these pieces of information you need to keep track of how your sales go are integrated into one place, making affiliate marketing convenient.

By becoming one of BigCommerce affiliates, you take advantage of 200% commissions depending on the customer's plan.
For Merchants
On the contrary, if you are a merchant, you have 7 options - actually 7 affiliate marketing programs - to help you promote your products through a bunch of affiliate marketers registered under these networks.

- LeadDyno
- Refersion
- ECA (E-commerce Affiliate Network)
- OMNISTAR (OSI Affiliate Software)

BigCommerce [UGLY] Truths Revealed!
1. Lots Of Negative Reviews
Given the 32 complaints in 3 years, BigCommerce was able to resolve only 8 complaints in the last 12 months. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) revealed the overall BBB rating barely passing with 1 out of 5-star rating.
2. False Advertisements [Business Closures]
Among the platforms I reviewed, this is, by far, the worst thing I've ever heard from a complainant.
According to one business owner, BigCommerce became the sole responsible for the closure of his business due to its inability to hide pricing, which should have been part of the platform features.
"As of now, some of our vendors have stopped doing business with us, since we can't keep their wholesale pricing a secret, and our company is literally falling apart at the hinges," he wrote.
3. Terrible Customer Service
This is concerning the previous complainant combined with another dissatisfied user. BigCommerce failure to respond to the users' concerns, particularly on the payment and technical side of building the online store.
"I emailed and spoke to several customer service reps, and billing issue has never been settled," a dissatisfied user wrote on the forum.
4. Fraudulent Charging
Another complaint tackled BigCommerce initiative to charge a user in his credit card for a non-existent website, which the company deleted.
"When I call a number [of BigCommerce], it either straight to a message or hangs up. Horrible service," he wrote.
5. Inability To Stop Free Trial
Based on the statements by a dissatisfied user on the BBB, he wanted to stop the 1-month free trial. Before the month was up, he tried to contact customer support to stop the trial.

However, BigCommerce failed to hear his concerns. Because of that, he decided to cancel his account just to prevent from paying anything.
To his big surprise, he got a 503 server error. Thinking his account has been successfully canceled, he wasn't when he saw his bank statement.
The company has been continuously charging him a year after he canceled the account.
6. Integration Won't Work
Although BigCommerce promises that integration with third-party services works well in the platform, one store owner found out that eBay won't work with it.
"They advertise they offer eBay integration. Then, after you sign-up and pay, the eBay integration doesn't work. Upon calling, they want you to buy a 3rd party service, which adds even more cost on to the solution. False advertising," he stated.

BigCommerce promises high revenues with less headaches for merchants. It turns out a big hassle due to terrible technical support & other reasons.
7. Existing Lawsuit
In 2018, there’s a record of Federal lawsuit filed against TC Heartland, which happens to be using the BigCommerce.
Based on the article posted by Fenwick and West LLP, it’s a case filed versus Kraft Foods Group Brands LLC in particular with the patent infringement lawsuits made by TC Heartland in 2017.
Now, BigCommerce is in between these companies the fact that it's hosting TC Heartland. Therefore the Federal lawsuit motioned to hear the company's decision, specifically on providing new guidance to new business owners, including the future businesses, about the issue of a patent to prevent similar events from happening.
"BigCommerce also serves as a reminder that a 'registered office' - even the address of a registered agent for service of process - may serve as a hook for venue in a patent infringement case," the article added.
What I Like About BigCommerce?
1. Trusted By Prominent Brands
Big companies like Toyota, Travelpro, among others are clients of BigCommerce. Chris Singleton, a blogger, mentioned that this platform has been the trusted one for bigger businesses like the ones he wrote. Hence, there’s no question about its legitimacy.

These are a few of the companies BigCommerce works with.
2. Discount For Annual Plans
Price ranges from $29.95 to as high as $249.95 per month (and goes beyond, particularly for Enterprise Plan). Once a business owner opts for the annual plan, an automatic 10% will be implemented on the payment, which is recurring every year.
3. Payment Integrations
There have been no reported problems with the payment integrations versus the third-party selling platforms like eBay and others.
In fact, it's been stated that BigCommerce has a wide range of payment gateways, which is beneficial not only for the merchants, but it also gives convenience for the customers.
4. Full Control Of CMS
For those who have no idea what CMS is, it stands for Content Management System. If you are a blogger, you use WordPress or Weebly.
Some other CMS that supports e-commerce like SquareSpace, Wix, and there are platforms for WordPress, too. Whatever CMS you use, it's the same with BigCommerce in an online store perspective, with 100% control of the content.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) shows high rating for BigCommerce in spite of the splurge of negative reviews filed against the company.
5. High Rating On BBB
Albeit the splurge of negative reviews, the BBB still provided them an A+ rating despite the 1 out of 5-star ratings based on the customer complaints unresolved on the platform.
Hence, the company was able to satisfy the evaluation standards i.e., company information.
BigCommerce Reviews - What Others Say About This SaaS Platform?
“I purchased a template from BigCommerce to build my website. I was told by a salesperson their templates would be easy to build on. Not the truth, and a few tech people agreed with me,” a dissatisfied user wrote on the Better Business Bureau complaint section.
You will see a lot of these complaints filed against the company with similar concerns. Technical issues as a result of misleading information, as well as integration errors and feuds with the payment system, particularly on the cancelation of the account and free trial offer. These are the commonalities of BigCommerce reality on various review sites.

One of the few negative complaints against BigCommerce, mostly wholesale companies facing tragic fate: closure because of using this platform.
Aside from that, I was also surprised with the existing lawsuit against one of the hosted websites, leading to the reprimand of informing the future or current business owners about the importance of not neglecting the legal side of things, including patent infringement.
Other reviews I’ve seen mentioned how great this platform could be when used as the sole SaaS for their online stores; however, the allegations and complaints revealed the other side of the coin. It’s not a great business jumpstart after all.
“It’s not as good as Shopify,” one of the reviews stated.
Is BigCommerce A Scam?
Despite the existing lawsuit and all these negative feedback about BigCommerce, there’s no doubt that the company is real and is considered legitimate in the eyes of many online business owners.
If the big companies like Toyota, Gibson Guitars, and many others trusted this platform for their hundred million business, how could this be a scam?
Therefore, it’s not the right question to ask whether it’s a scam or not. It should be “Is BigCommerce right for my business?”
From there, it could be apt as a necessity of your business or not. It’s only you who could answer that. Do the research and find out more if this platform can do good for you or not at all, given all the circumstantial evidence I showed you.
Yet, BigCommerce is legit without questions asked.

#1 Online Business Opportunity
I used to own an online store, I have had a few experiences with Shopify and other platforms pertaining on building online stores.
With that being said, I have a clear image on my mind the hassle it would bring for every merchant to encounter any technical-related errors in the business.
You already have so much on your plate. You do the inventory and all the other tasks you need to implement on your online store, including the legalities it entails to make sure everything is seamless.
Not only the physical products gain the most hassle, but you also have to keep track of the shipment, ensuring the safe delivery of the products your customers buy from you.
Otherwise, you have to take care of the refunds and/or re-delivery of the items due to the existing terms and policies of your shop.

Selling physical goods online is a bit of a hassle, although there's a big audience targeted. Yet, nothing beats selling digital goods for passive income.
In general, maintaining an online shop with physical goods is a lot of work. Not only from the beginning, but it also does throughout the rest of the day and even years. That’s not the same with the digital selling, though.
You work harder than anybody else at the start; yet, when everything is polished, including your systems, you can finally relax and enjoy the passive income.
Do you want that kind of life? All you have to do is to click on the link and learn how to become the most exceptional online marketer employing the principles in the #1 online business opportunity.
Every businessman online should learn how to market their own businesses. Regardless if you pursue selling physical products or not, the high-income skill set you honed will remain in you.
